3:29 pm on 2 February 2015

The Director of the Samoa Meteorology Service says locals should prepare for the possibility of a Tropical Cyclone.

Parts of Apia have been flooded overnight as Samoa continues to experience heavy rain.

Mulipola Tainau Ausetalia Titimaea says a heavy rain notice is still in force for the country but conditions are expected to subside by the middle of the week.

However, there is flooding in low lying areas as well as landslides and an expected bout of heavy rain to come next week.

Mulipola says it's not the worst conditions for Samoa but people should still be prepared.

"It's picking up again for the month of February for the El Nino signature. That's why we're experiencing again a second-half enhancement of rain and possibility of Tropical Cyclones for this month."
