New American Samoan congresswoman heads to US

2:40 pm on 10 November 2014

American Samoa's congresswoman-elect Aumua Amata will travel to Washington DC tomorrow night.

Aumua has had informal meetings with local traditional, political and business leaders to hear their views on issues before her departure.

Among those who attended the meeting was the governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga.

Aumua says she will return to Pago Pago after a 10-day orientation.

Although she is not yet a member of Congress until January, Aumua says she want to be able to help Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin with any remaining bills of importance to American Samoa by speaking with Republican members if it will be helpful.

Meanwhile, Faleomavaega, who Aumua unseated last week, has returned to Washington DC before vacating his office by January.
