Tonga's airline to use two new planes

7:36 pm on 1 August 2014

Tonga's airline, Real Tonga, is introducing two new aircraft into its fleet.

The CEO, Tevita Palu, told Radio Tonga News its new leased aircraft from Australia started operations today, with flights between Tongatapu and the islands of Ha'apai and Vava'u.

He says it has temporarily leased the aircraft to help cut costs, with just a few passengers travelling to the outer islands.

Mr Palu says a new Y12 plane, gifted from China to Tonga, is expected to arrive at Fua'amotu airport tomorrow.

Both the MA60 and a 17-seater Y12 aircraft are operating as usual.
