The Fijian Elections Office has started the first of 3 Training the Trainers workshops in preparation for the September election.

The training is part of the European Union's support to the Office.

The EU is giving the Fiji government just over a million US dollars for technical assistance and training support ahead of the election.

The workshops are being run by Democracy Reporting International, which is contracted by the European Union and is supported by trainers from New Zealand.

A total of 60 people will be trained as trainers and these in turn will train 4,000 polling station presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling venue coordinators over the coming weeks.
