Nauru declares more as refugees

8:12 pm on 23 June 2014

Another 19 people from Australia's asylum seeker detention camps on Nauru have been granted refugee status by the Nauru government.

The 19 comprise five families, one single woman and three single men who will be resettled in separate accommodation blocks in the Nauru community.

Four people were refused refugee status and will remain at the detention centre for the Australian government to deal with.

The Nauru government says it will continue to hand down refugee determinations in the coming weeks, with over 1,200 detainees still being held in the camps.

A total of 60 people have been granted refugee status in the past month.
