An inmate at American Samoa's Correctional Facility is recovering in hospital after being stabbed inside the territory's jail.
The stabbing occurred over the weekend and Police Commissioner William Haleck has provided no details of the incident as the investigation is ongoing.
He did, however, confirm that a sharp object was used.
He said it's unclear how the inmate obtained a sharp object and what provoked the assault.
Samoa News reports that the inmate accused of the assault is in maximum security while the investigation is underway.
