Arrest warrants threaten investors confidence in PNG

6:51 pm on 14 January 2014

The Papua New Guinea trade commissioner says the controversial warrant of arrest for the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and two senior ministers has created a negative impact on investors' confidence in PNG.

Moses Maladina told the newspaper, The National, he wants to reassure investors that the political issue does not affect the country as an attractive investment destination.

Mr Maladina has called on leaders and officers of the government, including police and magisterial services, that as citizens they should be mature enough to look beyond politics in making decisions.

Meanwhile, the works minister Francis Awesa told a meeting of major road contractors in Lae on Friday that political controversies such as the warrant issue are derailing efforts to boost business and investment in PNG.
