Papua New Guinea's acting police commissioner Simon Kauba says an investigation into the alleged gang rape of an 18-year-old girl by police officers in the East Sepik region has found evidence of malpractice and inaction.

A report Mr Kauba received last week from the head of the police crimes directorate, a team of three detectives and the Momase divisional commander indicated evidence of police malpractice and inactions in the gang rape, the arson of three houses and the police shooting of a man.

In a statement, Mr Kauba says those involved in the three crimes will be suspended and dealt with criminally as well as administratively.

All three criminal acts were allegedly conducted during a police raid conducted at Kawanumbo village in Boiken, Wewak on December the 7th.
