CNMI power utility sues other public agencies over debts

4:19 pm on 16 December 2013

The utilities company in the Northern Marianas is suing the Commonwealth government and two autonomous agencies for arrears of nearly 19 million US dollars.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation is suing the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, the Public School System, and the CNMI central government for eighteen point 9 million US dollars.

The amount includes outstanding utility billings, interest, and lawyers' fees.

More than half of the money is owed by the healthcare agency.

The utilities company says if this outstanding amount is paid and all future bills met on time, it could lead to significant savings for the utility's clients.
