Manutahi chosen as French Polynesia ombudsman

The leader of French Polynesia Porinetia Ora Party, Teiva Manutahi, has been made the territory's first ombudsman.

This comes after his party's failure to make it to the second round in this year's territorial election and its subsequent re-alignment with the ruling Tahoeraa Huiraatira.

Mr Manutahi has told Tahiti-infos that his new office will help people of all political colours deal with their concerns with government.

In the lead-up to the election, Mr Manutahi campaigned against the Tahoeraa's Gaston Flosse and after the loss in the election's first round, he accused it of cheating and sought to have the elections annulled.

Within days, however, he changed his mind and concluded the election campaign at Mr Flosse's side.
