Sport: Brad Hogg quits as PNG cricket coach after recall

Papua New Guinea cricket coach Brad Hogg has relinquished his role after earning a shock recall to the Australian Twenty20 team.

The 40 year old, who last played for his country in March 2008, was the fairytale selection when Australia unveiled their 14-man T20 squad this week for the series against India, after impressing for the Perth Scorchers in domestic competition.

Hogg, who took over from Andy Bichel as coach of the Barramundis late last year, was due to lead PNG at the World T20 qualfiers in Dubai in March, where the final two places at the World Cup will be decided.

But he's now pinning his hopes on making the tournament as a player and says, as a result, he will have to put his coaching career on hold.
