Fiji's interim prime minister has just announced that the country's president, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, will retire at the end of next month.

Commodore Frank Bainimara told a press conference that the president will go on leave on July 30th for one month.

Commodore Bainimarama says Ratu Josefa will then hand over his presidency to retire.

The country's vice president and former military commander, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, will serve as acting president in the meantime.
