There are reports another person has been killed and five others injured near the Papuan mine where an Australian man was shot dead.
Drew Grant, an engineer at Grasberg's Freeport gold and copper mine in Papua, was shot five times on Saturday.
Now Indonesian police and mining officials in Papua say a security guard has been killed in shooting that's again broken out near the mine.
Australia's Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith told the ABC that the Indonesian police have assured him Saturday's shooting is being treated as a high-priority case.
"The Indonesian national police have requested the Australian Federal Police to provide officers to Papua to assist in the investigation and as a consequence of that two Australian police officers arrived Papua Province from Jakarta to assist."
