Faleomavaega dismisses speculation about cannery changes

The American Samoan member of the US Congress, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, has rejected as not true claims that he is working to secure American based Bumble Bee cannery to come to American Samoa.

There has been a suggestion that Samoa Packing is pulling out of the territory.

However, Chicken of the Sea International, which owns Samoa Packing, says reports of layoffs and pulling out of American Samoa are just speculation about the company's business plan.

Faleomavaega says he has not had any real contact with Chicken of the Sea over the past several weeks.

Commenting from Washington, Faleomavaega says the notion that he is trying to get Bumble Bee to come to American Samoa is not true.

He says the territory already has two canneries and he is trying every way possible to make sure StarKist Samoa and Samoa Packing continue their operations in Pago Pago.
