In Fiji about 400 mill employees at Vanua Levu's biggest sawmill have been laid off due to poor road conditions caused by recent floods.

The workers of Valebasoga Tropik Boards in Labasa have been without work for the past several days as the timber mill suffers log shortages and export problems.

Mill owner Bahadur Ali told the Fiji Times that road conditions caused by recent heavy downpour has forced the loss of export earnings to the value of 1 millions US dollars.

He says the company also suffered 1 million dollars in damages due to flooding.
