The police in Samoa have withdrawn a common assault charge against a New Zealand man after a psychiatric report indicated he was unwell.
The charge was laid against the man after he allegedly assaulted
three police officers including a policewoman.
The assistant police commissioner and spokesman, Papalii Li'o, says the individual has now left the country accompanied by his farther.
However the assistant commissioner did not elaborate on the investigation into the alleged assault of the New Zealander while he was kept in custody at Tafaigata prison.
