Fletcher Construction has been awarded the contract to build the new marketplace in Fagatogo in American Samoa
The brand new complex will house a produce market, fish market, restaurant and incubator for start up businesses.
Construction is expected to take 6-9 months.
Government officials involved with the project say that Governor Togiola Tulafono has approved the construction of a one story building rather than the original plan for a two story structure, which would have cost twice as much.
The one story complex will provide more space because there wont be need for an elevator , staircase or atrium.
The Economic Development Administration and Department of Housing and Urban Development which are funding the more than $2 million project have approved the change.
