In Solomon Islands, the High Court has begun hearing an appeal by the Asian businessman, Alex Wong, against his conviction on corruption charges.

Wong, the managing director of the logging company, Earth Movers, was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment last September on corruption charges.

In the High Court yesterday, lawyers representing Mr Wong alleged that there hadn't been enough evidence to convict their client.

The businessman had been convicted in relation to charges that he attempted to bribe customs officers.

The prosecution is due to present its case this morning.
