Auckland's Northwestern Motorway is now fully open after earlier closures at both ends.

The road had been closed in both directions near Whenuapai because of a truck crash, and in one direction at Grafton because of a police incident.

A police response near Upper Queen Street earlier caused delays near Spaghetti Junction, with traffic backed up in several directions.

Police said a person had died.

Meanwhile, another part of the Northwestern Motorway was earlier closed in both directions after a truck crashed into a median barrier.

On Friday afternoon, NZTA said State Highway 16 had reopened to northbound traffic between Brigham Creek roundabout and the Hobsonville Road overpass and that all lanes had been fully restored.

Police said a truck collided with a barrier on the west bound lanes on State Highway 16 at about 8.40am, just before the Brigham Creek Road roundabout.

The driver has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
