Japan has increased its grants to Marshall Islands non-governmental organisations.
A grant of more than 80,000 US dollars to the Majuro Atoll Local Government to build a community centre brings the total for 10 projects to nearly 800,000 US dollars.
The Japan Grassroots Grants programme offers direct grant funding to community-based groups based on the level of need and applications submitted by the organisations.
Seven of the 10 projects supported during the past 12 months are for schools, mostly in the outer islands.
The other grants are funding improvements to Namdrik Atoll¹s airport terminal, a piggery at Rongelap Atoll and the community center in Majuro.
