PNG university pay dispute taken to court

2:38 pm on 10 March 2005

A pay dispute at the University of Papua New Guinea is being taken to court.

More than 300 staff at the UPNG's two campuses have withdrawn labour over a demand that they be paid a wage settlement made to other public servants last year.

The President of the National Academic Staff Association, Dr Pongie Kichawen, says they'll be in court this afternoon.

"The executive of the two unions, the National Academic Staff Association and the Non-academic Staff Association plus the members of the two unions have been summoned to appear before the National Court of Papua New Guinea. We'll continue to remain where we are until we have settled this in the court."
