Two Papua New Guinea policemen have been charged with armed robbery and will soon appear in court.

The National newspaper reports the armed police officers allegedly held up a shop and stole cartons of beer, using a police-issued firearm.

The deputy commissioner of police operations, Gary Baki, said the case was a warning to police officers they are not above the law and would be dealt with severely if found abusing their powers.
