Fare thee well Cynthia

From Upbeat, 1:00 pm on 28 March 2022

Dear RNZ Concert listeners,

We want to let you know that RNZ Concert Daybreak host Cynthia Morahan has left RNZ to focus on her family.

Cynthia first began at RNZ in 2002 working as a newsreader on Morning Report and music presenter on RNZ Concert.

In 2006, she moved to Ireland, where she worked as a presenter for RTÉ and the EBU.

Cynthia returned to RNZ in 2013 as a casual newsreader and music presenter and took over the RNZ Concert breakfast programme at the beginning of 2018.

A talented, enthusiastic, irreverent, creative and fun-loving colleague, Cynthia brought all her energy to making Daybreak a delightful experience for RNZ Concert listeners. We know her voice and companionship will be missed from the early hours of the morning.

Cynthia brought lots of great programme ideas to Concert. We benefited from her interest in literature as well as music with her Daybreak Book Corner, discussing and gifting a music-related book each month. this led to listeners sharing personal stories such as the 'found pianos of New Zealand'.

She also enriched our understanding and appreciation of classical music though showing that great music is great regardless of genre, creating a shared Christmas playlist, considering how we can learn from Beethoven to triumph over adversity, championing the under-appreciated composer Haydn, sharing five feminist moments in music, and exploring the relationship between music and nature though your favourite combinations of music and landscape.

As well as contributing to these and many other stories Cynthia was a regular book reviewer for Nine To Noon with Kathryn Ryan on RNZ National, and an interviewer for RNZ Concert.

Thank you Cynthia for your contribution to the Concert team and RNZ during the time you have been with us, you go with our very best wishes.

- Your friends at RNZ Concert
