American Soprano Renee Fleming was here in September giving a one-off concert with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor James Judd. She is a regular host and performer in the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcasts. She speaks to Eva Radich about those broadcasts and her recent debut on Broadway.

Piano pedagogue Rae de Lisle was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list. As a pianist Rae's own career was cut short by injury and she is now not only one of the country's leading piano teachers but also an international expert on focal distonia having completed her doctoral thesis on the debilitating injury last year.
