Piano pedagogue Rae de Lisle was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list. As a pianist Rae's own career was cut short by injury and she is now not only one of the country's leading piano teachers but also an international expert on focal distonia having completed her doctoral thesis on the debilitating injury last year.
