Auckland Philharmonia presents Baroque & Beyond: Water Music, a programme directed by concertmaster Andrew Beer.
The concert opens with selections from the regal vibrancy of George Frideric Handel’s iconic Water Music. Originally composed in 1717 for King George I’s royal boat procession down the River Thames, it remains a masterpiece of the Baroque era. The programme then shifts to the 20th century with Michael Tippett’s Time Past, Time Present, Time Future. This reflective arrangement by Peter Manning draws on the slow, lyrical movements of Tippett’s first three string quartets, highlighting the composer's deep affinity for Baroque forms.
