Although Georg Philipp Telemann's intent in this witty piece seems to be humorous, it's possible the octogenarian composer was wryly portraying his own failing health, in the music.

There are pairs of movements depicting various age-related ailments and their remedies - including the halting Loure movement with the strings wincing in pain to illustrate the symptoms of gout!
