The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra performs its first main subscription series concert for 2017. Titled 'Myths and Legends', it features piano soloist Frank Dupree and the conductor is the orchestra's Music Director, Giordano Bellincampi.

The concert opens with John Rimmer's fanfare 'Vulcan', which the orchestra commissioned as one of its Millennium Fanfares in 2000.

Dupree plays Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1 and follows that with an encore - an improvisation on Harold Arlen's 'Over the Rainbow'.

The second half is devoted to Richard Strauss - his Suite from Der Rosenkavalier and his tone poem, 'Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks'.

The concert is presented by Mary Newman-Pound.
