Beyond Jobim: Alda Rezende Sextet with Doug de Vries

Alda Rezende Wellington Jazz Festival Image Marcia CharnizonBrazilian-born Wellingtonian Alda Rezende has had in mind performing a series of concerts featuring Brazilian composers and she starts in this 2014 Wellington Jazz Festival concert with Tom Jobim.

Jobim was one of the masterminds behind the bossanova mixture of jazz and samba that took off in the 1950s. One of the most well-known of his tunes is of course The Girl from Ipanema and Rezende pays tribute to it here with a combined Portuguese/Māori version.

Joining Rezende on stage are some of Wellington’s best loved performers and guest guitarist Doug de Vries.
