    11 Apr 2023
East Tamaki residents Ramil Casas and his wife Nema Rose saw significant damage to their rental property.
Ramil Casas says he was only narrowly missed by the tree branches which smashed through his window just before 9pm on Sunday. He says he was working in the living room when the wind started howling, he went near the window hoping to check, and that was when the branches cut through the glass. He says he feels lucky that they're now safe "It's like surreal, we can't believe that we survived the tornado". Ramil Cases says their roof was also damaged, and meanwhile tiles from a neighbour's roof had smashed into his flatmates' car.

About 50 homes were damaged when a tornado hit East Auckland on Sunday night, with some residents feeling lucky to be alive. Audio
