Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, addresses the Climate Summit 2025, a high-Level special event on Climate Action.

By COP30, all Parties to the Paris Agreement must submit new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that reflect bold action for the next decade. These updated plans are a chance to unlock the benefits of a just, resilient, low-carbon future. To accelerate momentum, Secretary-General António Guterres are hosting this Special High-Level Event on Climate Action, as a platform for leaders to present their new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event will also bring together leaders from government, business, and civil society, around thematic Solutions Dialogues, to put forward ideas to drive action across mitigation, adaptation, finance, information integrity and other critical areas, in line with the Paris Agreement and COP30 priorities.

Australia and the Pacific had most of the support to host the UN climate meeting, but the process meant if there was no resolution with Türkiye, the default city of Bonn would have hosted the meeting. Audio
