A prison in eastern Victoria remains in lockdown after a riot, with 11 prisoners refusing to come down from the roof.
Police said the trouble began when about 30 inmates of Fulham prison refused to return to their cells and a prison officer tried to forcibly move them, the ABC reports.
The inmates armed themselves with gym and garden equipment and set fire to three bins.
More than half of were talked down from the roof and returned to their cells, however 11 held out.
Victoria Police were unable to say if the prisoners are making any demands.
Riot police and negotiators are on scene and the prison has been placed into lockdown.
The ABC says it is believed some prison guards are suffering from smoke inhalation.
Paramedics believe capsicum spray has been used on prisoners, but they have not been allowed inside to treat anyone.
Last November an inmate was hospitalised with serious injuries after being stabbed during a fight at the centre. Three other people were also injured in the incident.
