Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has ordered an investigation into all allegations of fraud in the parliamentary election, the BBC reports.
On Saturday, Russia saw its biggest protests yet against the governing party of Vladimir Putin.
Mr Medvedev, having already conceded that some violations of electoral law took place at the parliamentary elections on 4 December, went on Facebook to say he had issued instructions for all official reports on the conduct of the polls to be checked.
That prompted at least 7000 comments under his post by 20:00 GMT on Sunday.
The BBC reports an early random sample showed the comments were equally divided between hostility, support and neutrality.
