British actress Maggie Jones, who played Blanche Hunt in the television soap, Coronation Street, has died at the age of 75.
A spokeswoman for the ITV show says the actress had been recovering from an operation in October, but her condition deteriorated and she died in hospital, the BBC reports.
Jones first appeared as the sharp-tongued Blanche 35 years ago and became a regular cast member in 1999.
William Roache, who plays her son-in-law Ken Barlow, says Jones was a "brilliant actress" who had an "amazing dry wit", and was as funny, if not funnier, than Blanche.
