Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has appeared at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal in The Hague for the first time since the start of his trial.
Dr Karadzic said he needed another 10 months to prepare his case, as he had not been given the opportunity to go through 1.3 million pages of documents submitted by prosecutors, the BBC reports.
He faces two charges of genocide and nine more of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the the 1992-1995 Bosnian War.
Dr Karadzic is conducting his own defence after last week boycotting the start of the trial last week. He has not entered a plea but has protested his innocence.
