People in Britain whose phones were hacked by the News of the World are to launch legal action in the United States against the paper's parent company, News Corporation.
Lawyer Mark Lewis says that although these events happened outside the US, News Corp might be responsible under American law for the activities of its foreign subsidiaries.
He says American lawyers will start proceedings next week.
