Iran will hand over two United States citizens convicted of spying to the Swiss embassy on Wednesday, their lawyer says.

The Swiss embassy has represented America's interests in Iran since Washington cut diplomatic ties with Tehran shortly after the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal were arrested in mid-2009 along Iran's border with Iraq where they said they were hiking.

The men were found guilty of illegal entry and espionage and sentenced to eight years in Evin prison in August this year.
