Prime Minister George Papandreou of Greece has postponed a visit to the United States, so that he can concentrate on his country's financial crisis.
He had planned to attend UN General Assembly and IMF meetings.
Mr Papandreou was to meet United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki Moon in New York on Sunday and International Monetary Fund head Christine Lagarde on Tuesday.
Greece is due to resume talks with EU/IMF inspectors next week, who will judge if the country has taken enough fiscal measures to merit its next loan tranche of 8 billion euro ($US11 billion) from a 110 billion bailout to avert default.
Eurozone ministers have delayed a decision on releasing the money.
A spokesman said the prime minister believed he needed to remain in Athens to take the decisions required to meet Greece's commitments.
