A giant crocodile in north Queensland has been crowned by Guinness World Records as the biggest crocodile in captivity.

Cassius was caught in the Northern Territory in 1984, but Green Island, off the far-north Queensland coast, has been its home for the past 24 years.

The 100-year-old croc measures almost 5.5 metres and weighs almost 1 tonne.

It lives at Marineland Melanesia's crocodile park and is named after Cassius Clay who later became Muhammad Ali.
