Novak Djokovic has confirmed his status as the world's best player with a four set win over defending champion Rafael Nadal at the US Tennis Open in New York.
The top seed from Serbia won 6-2 6-4 6-7 6-1 in a match that lasted 4 hours 10 minutes in windy conditions at Flushing Meadows on Monday.
The result was the first US Open title for Djokovic and the Spaniard's sixth loss to the Serbian this year - all in finals.
Nadal was chasing his 11th Grand Slam title.
