A mother who worked with Britain's News of the World newspaper has been told her phone may have been hacked following the murder of her eight-year-old daughter by a paedophile.
The scandal erupted last month over allegations the now-defunct newspaper conspired to hack the phone of another murdered schoolgirl, Milly Dowler.
After her daughter was murdered in 2000, Sara Payne worked with the tabloid on a campaign to introduce a law to protect children from sex offenders by giving greater public access to the sex offenders register.
She has now been told her details have been found in the notes of private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who was used by the tabloid and jailed on phone hacking charges in 2007, the ABC reports.
It has been alleged that the paper's former editor, Rebekah Brooks, personally gave Ms Payne a phone, which was then intercepted.
Ms Brooks denies any knowledge of hacking and said the phone was not a personal gift but provided by the News of the World for the past 11 years.
She said the allegations were abhorrent and particularly upsetting because Ms Payne was a dear friend.
