Mass grave found in Iraq

10:12 am on 7 July 2011

A mass grave with 900 corpses has been discovered near the city of Diwaniyah in Iraq.

The bodies are believed to be those of Kurds killed in the 1980s during the rule of Saddam Hussein.

The corpses have been transferred to laboratories in the city of Najaf to help with identification.

Human-rights groups believe there are hundreds of mass graves of people killed during Saddam's rule. Last April, one containing more than 800 bodies was found in western Iraq.
