The Australian state of Victoria has been rattled by a 'significant' 4.4 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.
The quake was centred north of the town of Korumburra, in eastern Victoria at 11.32am local time and was felt widely throughout the state, the ABC reports.
Geoscience Australia duty seismologist Emma Mathews says the quake was not on the scale as those experienced recently in New Zealand and Japan but is significant due to the nature of the Australian tectonic plate.
Ms Mathews says the tremor was felt from the Melbourne central business district to 60km north and 100km to the east, and aftershocks will continue to be felt at the epicentre.
