Blues and rock guitarist Gary Moore has died on holiday in Spain. He was 58.
Moore, originally from Belfast, became famous as a member of the Irish band Thin Lizzy, but enjoyed continuing success as a renowned solo artist equally comfortable playing heavy metal, rock and the blues.
He first played guitar on stage at the age of six at a show organised by his father, but his career began in earnest in the 1960s when he joined the band Skid Row where Phil Lynott was the vocalist, the BBC reports.
Lynott would go on to form Thin Lizzy, which Moore joined and left several times during the 1970s.
Moore's guitar on Parisienne Walkways Walkways made it a top 10 hit in 1979 and from the 1980s onwards, he was a successful solo artist and a household name, especially in Europe and Japan.
He performed on stage with a range of major artists and released 20 studio albums.
