A roadside bomb in southern Afganistan has killed 15 people, all civilians.

The explosion reportedly hit a pickup truck carrying civilians in the province of Helmand on Friday afternoon in a remote village.

The provincial governor's office said the vehicle, which was carrying villagers to a bazaar, ran over the bomb and detonated it.

Four people were wounded.

The Taliban was blamed.

The United Nations says more than 1270 civilians were killed in the first six months of this year.
