A Russian citizen working as a parliamentary aide in Britain has been taken into custody, but the MP she works for has denied newspaper claims that she's a spy.
Katia Zatuliveter, 25, was taken into custody on Thursday and faces deportation proceedings.
Liberal Democrat MP Mike Hancock told the BBC he stands by her and has seen no evidence that she is a threat to the UK.
Mr Hancock, who sits on the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, has acknowledged asking for information on the location of nuclear submarines and has probably asked more defence questions than any other MP, but insisted his work was not top secret.
A security source is said to have told the Sunday Times that Ms Zatuliveter's presence was not "conducive to national security", and the intention was to "show her the door".
The newspaper suggests it is the first time since the end of the Cold War that someone working in Parliament has been accused of spying for the Russians.
