Corin Tellado, Spain's most prolific romantic novelist, died on Saturday at the age of 81.
Her books sold over 400 million copies in a career that spanned more than five decades.
Born Maria del Socorro Tellado Lopez on April 25, 1927 in a northern fishing village, she dictated her most recent works since poor vision prevented her from typing. She finished her last novel on Wednesday.
Many of her books were turned into radio serials, movies or television soap operas.
Unlike best-selling contemporary European romance novelists such as Barbara Cartland and Victoria Holt who often wrote period pieces, Tellado stuck to contemporary settings.
She will be buried on Monday in Gijon.
