Gambia cuts ties with Iran over arms shipment

The West African nation of Gambia has cut all ties with Iran, ordering Iranian government representatives to leave within 48 hours.

No reason has been given for the move, but last month Nigeria said it intercepted an illegal arms shipment from Iran, apparently destined for Gambia.

The two countries have had relatively close ties. A year ago, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Gambia.
