Cummings to attend Melbourne Cup

8:10 am on 1 November 2010

Australian trainer Bart Cummings says he expects to be at Flemington on Tuesday as he attempts to win the Melbourne Cup for the 13th time.

Cummings, 85, was released from a Melbourne hospital on Sunday after being admitted on Wednesday night with a recurrence of a respiratory condition.

He missed the lead-up win of So You Think in Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes.

So You Think will jump from barrier three and is favourite for the Cup ahead of last year's winner Shocking which has the outside gate in the field of 24 horses.

Cummings believes So You Think can win.

Lake conditions

Flemington race course ressembled a lake on Sunday following more than 60mm of rain in 24 hours.

But track manager Mick Goodie is optimistic about the state of the track on Tuesday.

He says the course has great recuperative powers and a lot of people will be surprised by the state of the track.
