Two people have life-threatening injuries after a light plane crash on the Gold Coast, paramedics say.
Shortly before 6am (9am NZT), police received reports of a crash at the Heck Field just off Stapylton Jacobs Well Road in Woongoolba near Jacobs Well, on the Gold Coast's northern outskirts.
The Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics assessed two people with life-threatening injuries at the scene.
Police said they were the only occupants of the plane.
The Queensland Fire Department said the plane crashed into bushland near the airstrip, sparking a large grassfire that 14 crews are working to control.

They have requested air support and water bombers are on the way.
Black smoke was billowing around the area, which was surrounded by sugar cane fields.
Residents in the Jacobs Well area were being asked to stay indoors and close their doors and windows due to heavy smoke in the area.
Emergency crews were working to reach the crash site through a clay target club range, but said it had been difficult to access the area because of tall grasses.
The response to the incident was ongoing and police were expected to hold a media conference.
